Meet Sarah
I am a career educator & public school advocate. My husband and I have lived in Dove Springs for many years and feel lucky to be raising our three kids, Harrison, Penelope, and Theo, here.
We love our D2 community and are deeply invested. I am passionate about the opportunity to bring my expertise to the AISD board and ensure that our D2 students receive a world class education.
I began my career as a high school teacher at a high needs, low-income, urban school in Saint Louis, Missouri. In 2013, I was honored to receive the Pettus Award for Excellence in Education for achieving outstanding results with my students and displaying a commitment to excellence. During this time, I also earned my masters degree in secondary education.
After four years in Saint Louis, my husband and I decided to move back to Austin. I taught reading and writing at a Title 1 middle school, served as a behavior specialist, and was promoted to assistant principal. I’ve seen firsthand the challenges faced by our students when a school is not performing to its full potential, and I’ve experienced the struggles of a classroom teacher trying to improve a broken system.
I realize that students need more than great teachers; they need the entire community to work together and advocate for change.
